Welcome back to Generation 2040 Day!

On March 5, 2023, we organized a big maternity party in the City Hall and the Market for your child and all other babies born in Wageningen in 2022. After the great success of the maternity party, we invite you to another day of fun and sustainability! Get ready for an afternoon of fun activities, green surprises.

Climate-neutral Wageningen

What's on the program?

• Green stories: Grandparents for the Climate read beautiful stories with images and music.
‍
• For the brothers and sisters, Theater Popsop returns with storytelling about beautiful trees, children's books.
‍
• Parent café: some time for you to catch up with other parents. Meanwhile, the children can play together with mega-sized duplicate blocks.
‍
• Family portrait: because this was a great success in 2023, we will repeat this action. We're taking another nice family photo, just like last time. How nice would it be for the family photo if you bring your child's name flag?
‍
• Toddler tasting: Give peas a chance! Local, healthy & delicious lupin beans!

• Small information market: you may have questions about making your home more sustainable, washable diapers, car sharing, solar panels, heat pumps. We are ready to answer your questions!

• Every generation of 2040 children receives a sustainable, summer activity gift.

• Raffle for 5 washable swim diapers by Kaatje Katoen

And as if that weren't enough, every generation of 2040 child gets a climate passport. Collect stamps at our activities. The first stamp of 2024 will appear in this passport on June 23. The climate passport will become a beautiful, personal memory that you will want to keep even after 2040. Make sure you're there and help make Wageningen a climate-neutral city!

P.S. Grandmothers and grandfathers are of course also welcome. This time, let the grandfathers and grandmothers be the babysitters for the children's activities. So you can enjoy a drink in our Parent Café with peace of mind!

Being an adult in a climate-neutral municipality, why?

There is no getting around it anymore; climate change is underway. And the whole world is affected by that. We also see the consequences of this in Wageningen. To stop this, it requires commitment from everyone. Generation 2040 will be the first to make their own adult choices in a climate-neutral municipality.

Amira in 2040

Eating local, plant-based products is better for the environment than eating animals or food from faraway countries. Amira eats fewer animal products and enjoys fruit, vegetables, legumes and nuts. That can be just as tasty and affordable. In 2040, as many Wageningen residents as possible, just like Amira, will eat sustainably.

Daan in 2040

Daan lives in a nice warm and energy-neutral apartment. This means that the energy that the house uses is made from renewable energy sources. Daan finds it strange that his parents used to spend so much money on energy bills. In 2040, as many Wageningen residents as possible, just like Daan, will live in an energy-neutral home.

Yara in 2040

Yara gets her driver's license in an electric car in 2040, preferring to ride a bike. And if possible, she mainly travels by public transport that does not pollute the air. Later, she wants to share an electric car with her neighbors. This saves a lot of parking spaces, so even more space for greenery.

Julia in 2040

In 2040, Julia will breathe clean air in Wageningen. Because we travel without CO2 emissions. Yara lives in a healthy, pleasant and green city. With many species of animals and plants. She loves walking around the city. Meet people in all Wageningen parks.

In 2040, Ilyas will be doing an internship at a Wageningen company that is completely sustainable and circular. The company generates all its electricity sustainably. And when purchasing products, it pays close attention to whether everything is made sustainably and/or can be reused. The company has no more waste and uses the raw materials over and over again.
